Crown Chakra & Headstand Pose (Salamba Sirhasana)

Namaste Readers,

If you’re new to the blog, welcome, if you’re a previous reader glad to have you back. I decided to take a two month break from my blog to reset myself, if you will. Multiple events were going on in my life that was making it difficult to find time to keep blogging and being a good mommy/wife.

So what all was going on in your life Ashleigh?? Well let’s see…

  • first, my mother got married. To an amazing guy who makes her incredibly happy. {Story Here}.
  • We got our first place together {May 1st}
  • We had to wait a week before actually moving in, in order to grannysit Shane’s adorable 93 year old grandma.
  • Been traveling to East Texas, Austin or Oklahoma consecutive weekends.
  • Had two web design jobs along with graphics and am now on my 3rd

  • 5 birthday parties for family & friends.
  • Mother’s Day, Fathers Day
  • An amazing meeting with two new friends from {Story Here}

Now add a 19 month old & 26 year old who want & deserve my attention 24/7…fewf!!!

I have recently been able to organize our new place to where it is comfortable now…thank god! A few more pinterest ideas & it will be a perfect little place for us.

But in the meantime, let’s focus on our Meditation Monday which is also our last post for this Chakra Series!

Crown Chakra (Sahasrara)

Weekly Asana: Headstand (Salamba Sirhasana)

Our 7th chakra is our crown chakra or Sahasrara, meaning thousandfold. Sahasrara represents our ability to be fully connected spiritually with thought, understanding and a greater consciousness. This chakra is located at the top of the head and also connected with our pituitary gland, cerebral cortex and central nervous system. The crown chakra is associated with the color violet and is about our connection to spirituality and bringing us to feel pure bliss.

By ridding ourselves of depression, alienation, apathy, boredom & confusion we are able to have a balanced, open, crown chakra. Start by breathing clean fresh air, no I don’t mean your febreezed living room. I mean go outside and breathe in that fresh air, go to a park and walk a trail… just you and nature. It’s pure awe for me to walk under those trees and listen to nature’s soundtrack, and am so glad to make it a family event {Ava loves her outdoor time, check out how to start/host your own nature group here}.  Not only does breathing in that fresh air help clear your head, but the vitamin D aids in reducing your risk of depression and many other problems such as the flu, chronic muscle aches, osteoporosis and more.

How about adding some real plants to your home, there are plenty of plants that actually clean the toxins and odors out of our home {oh possible blog post maybe?}. Good, so now we have solved some health problems as well as mental problems with just one activity….sun, outside, nature….hmm who would have thought it.

Boredom is another factor to think about. You know, it’s crazy that kids {and even adults} get bored so easily, they must have a phone, computer or TV right in front of their face entertaining them as much as possible. Why must we alienate ourselves from the world and each other, instead of having a program “programming” your mind, why don’t you spend that time reading something to expand your mind.(Read about ways to unplug here) Learn a new skill, language or yoga pose. Test your limits, see what YOU can do. I have recently learned to play guitar, which is something I’ve wanted to do for quite sometime now. Keep moving forward and you will never be bored again.

Speaking of yoga pose, our yoga pose for opening up your crown chakra is the Headstand or Salamba Sirhasana. This pose is more on the advanced side and do not recommend that you try without proper knowledge, experience, or at least a spotter near by….ps: toddlers DOT NOT make good spotters, they will only be there to push you down and laugh. 😉

This pose causes the blood to flow towards the head, supplying it with oxygen. This pose also helps to clear the mind as well as balances your crown chakra. Depending on your experience level you can stay in this pose for several minutes or 2 1/2 seconds.
