Natural Alternatives to the Flu Vaccine
With the cool weather upon us, we now have the excuse to pull out those super cute boots and overdose on pumpkin flavored everything (check out Ashleigh’s pumpkin spiced latte recipe)! We can start preparing chili, soups, stews, and all of the yummy baked goods that the Holidays are known for! Unfortunately, the cold weather also gives the media the excuse to start pushing the flu vaccines. I trust that the majority of the readers here are already in the know as to the dangers of vaccines. However, if you’re still on the fence here is an excerpt from www.mercola.com that you should take a gander at
Pandemic Flu Vaccine Made People Sicker
Moreover, a number of studies have now suggested that vaccination may actually increase the future risk of infection. Case in point: the 2008-2009 flu vaccine actually made people more prone to pandemic swine flu. As noted in the Canadian press two years ago:14
“Canadian researchers noticed in the early weeks of the pandemic that people who got a flu shot for the 2008-2009 winter seemed to be more likely to get infected with the pandemic virus than people who hadn’t received a flu shot. Five studies done in several provinces showed the same puzzling and unsettling results… a new study suggests the findings may indeed have been real.”
The study in question was led by Dr. Danuta Skowronski, an influenza expert at the B.C. Centre for Disease Control in Vancouver, and the findings were presented at the the Interscience Conference on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy (ICAAC) in 2012. Thirty-two ferrets were divided into two groups: one group receiving the 2008 flu vaccine and the other a placebo. All the ferrets were then infected with the pandemic H1N1 virus. End result?
The vaccinated ferrets became significantly sicker than the unvaccinated animals, which is the exact converse of what vaccines are supposed to do. At the time, Dr. Skowronski noted that: “The findings… are consistent with the increased risk that we saw in the human studies.” It’s still unclear what caused this effect, but two theories suggested at the time were described as follows:
- The “original antigenic sin” hypothesis: if the virus in the vaccine is close but not an exact match to the pandemic virus in circulation, it might actually facilitate infection, as the antibodies generated are not able to adequately neutralize the virus.
- The “infection block hypothesis” relates to vaccine-acquired versus naturally-acquired immunity. When you recover from a bout of the flu, it’s possible that your body creates antibodies capable of defending against other similar strains of the virus—at least for some time. The flu vaccine, on the other hand, only offers protection against the strains included in the vaccine. The theory here is that those who received a flu shot in 2009 (and didn’t get sick with the flu) were therefore more susceptible to the pandemic virus the following year.
Indeed, when blood samples from healthy, unvaccinated children and children who had received an annual flu shot were compared, the unvaccinated group was found to have naturally built up more antibodies across a wider variety of influenza strains compared to the latter vaccinated group. Needless to say, this gives those who are unvaccinated a clear advantage when a really nasty viral flu comes along…
Your best protection from the flu is not some drug made by man. The best protection against all illness and disease is the, incredibly smart, immune system given to us by our Creator. Unfortunately, today our immune systems are extremely compromised. We live in a very toxic world and the American lifestyle is extremely toxic. From hygiene products to processed foods the general public isn’t doing itself any favors when it comes to resisting disease. On top of the poor lifestyle the media pushes vaccination that, as it turns out, makes you more likely to get sick. So, you ask… what do I do? Well, here are a few very simple things you can do every day to ensure your immune system is functioning at its peak.
The primary lifestyle habits causing an impaired immune system are:
- Eating too much sugar and processed foods
- Lack of sleep
- Lack of exercise
These are incredibly easy to fix. Start making an effort to drink 3 liters of water per day. Find a stress relief technique that works for you. It could be prayer, meditation, meridian tapping, yoga, stretching, or a book and a hot cup of tea. Whatever it is; you need to make time for it. If you only have 5 minutes that’s fine. Use it to simply focus on your breathing. Focus on deep breaths and as you exhale focus on pushing out all the negativity you have encountered for the day or any worries you have built up. Your immune system will thank you and reward you!
The hardest part of the holiday season is avoiding the sugar and processed foods. The key is to remember that you can create the most amazing treats right in your own home using healthy ingredients! Instead of letting this time of year be a time to OD on pumpkin, let it be a time to OD on pumpkin while creating memories with loved ones in the kitchen. It will make those baked goods all the more special. Also, get to bed at a decent time! If you have a habit of going to bed late because you are Facebook-ing, Netflix-ing, or just plain busy it’s time to rethink your choices. Is seeing a friend’s latest post really worth having the flu? I mean you have all day at work to scroll through your news feed, right?… But seriously, I can’t even begin to explain the number of ailments that could be avoided if people would get proper sleep. To be clear we are talking AT LEAST a full 8 hours.
Lastly, get moving. Exercise is one of the best immune boosters. Not to mention, it elevates your mood, protects your brain and body from aging, and is welcomed after all those pumpkin spice lattes you should be avoiding. Hop on a treadmill and walk a mile at the highest incline (you know your own fitness level. If you need to start at incline 0, and each day work up, then do it). You can do this in about 20 minutes and the incline will help you burn double the calories in the same amount of time. The incline will also engage more muscles and you’ll start reaping the benefits right away. Now, that you have some easy suggestions on how to slightly alter your lifestyle let’s move on.
Natural Alternatives to the Flu Vaccine
I am so thankful for all of the healing foods we have right here on Earth! Who needs a pharmacy with drugs that could kill you when you have vegetables and herbs that taste great, heal, and give life? It’s a no-brainer. Here are some of the best immune system boosters that could be considered for use on a daily basis:
- Vitamin D3 (take with K2)
- Probiotics (the majority of your immune system lives in your gut. If you have poor gut health then you will have a weakened immune system)
- Coconut oil
- Herbal Teas
- Cod Liver Oil
There are also many immune boosting foods that should be a regular part of your diet:
- Fermented foods (kefir, kim-chi, sauerkraut, etc.)
- Homemade beef/chicken/fish/vegetable stocks
- Garlic (raw and fresh pressed)
- Ceylon Cinnamon
- And, of course, as many fresh vegetables and fruits as possible
In addition to the above mentioned daily supplements and foods there are also many helpful herbs and oils that can be taken at the onset of symptoms:
